(本書で3個存在と記されていますが、内一枚が米国ニューヨークにある「American Numismatic Society」所蔵のSphinxタイプがおそらく間違えです(通常の蛇タイプ)。

本品の「Babylon」ミント以外でも、「Pella」ミントにもありますが、本品と同じく、数枚(パリとベルリン博物館コレクション入れて) 「8枚」しか知られていません。

Babylonタイプが「最希少」の一言。
本品の状態も、最高です！

特記:
Seleucus 1世の在位中に作られたコインが、最も求められていて、本タイプ同様、通常「蛇」ではなくヘルメットの「Sphinx」タイプが最希少であります。

その後、ペルシア帝国を滅ぼしたアレクサンドロス3世（大王）がここをマケドニア王国の王都としたが、紀元前323年のバビロンでの彼の死に伴ってバビロン会議が開催され、彼の遺将たち（ディアドコイ）によって権力と所領の分割協定が結ばれた。



しかし、やがてディアドコイ戦争が勃発し、紆余曲折を経て、ディアドコイの一人だった「セレウコス1世」がバビロンとアジアの大部分の支配者となり、紀元前312年にセレウコス朝を開いた！



しかし、幾人かの王の中興があったものの彼の時代をピークにセレウコス王朝は次第に領土を喪失していった。

Reverse: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ, Nike standing, looking left, holding wreath in right hand and stylis over left shoulder, monogram in wreath below left wing, monogram in wreath below left wing, HP monogram below right wing.


Price 3716 (citing 3 specimens, including one in the American Numismatic Society in NYC which is probably an error as the respective ANS specimen depicts the snake ornament, not a sphinx).
