James 1（在位1603年〜1625年）
スコットランド王としてはジェームズ６世（在位1567年―1625年）。メアリー・スチュアートの子。
エリザベス１世の死後英国王位を継ぎ，スチュアート朝の祖となる。英国国教会主義をとり，旧教徒・清教徒（ピューリタン）の双方を弾圧したので，1605年旧教徒による火薬陰謀事件が起きた。自ら王権神授説を主張し，重課税・独占権付与・外交問題等で議会と対立し，国民の不満を高め，ピューリタン革命の遠因をつくった。

English Version:

This is a very impressive Near-Mint « Rose Royal » of Great Britain struck at the London Mint during the years of James I between 「1621 and 1623」。

Certified as 「PCGS AU-58 Gold Shield」with a population of two (2) coins and one (1) finer .

References: S-2632; Fr-239; N-2108; KM-66.1 varieties. Third issue, fine gold coinage.

The obverse features James seated facing on elaborate throne, head turned slightly left, holding lis-tipped scepter and orb; portcullis below. The reverse features Coat-of-arms over long cross fourchee; XXX (mark of value = 30 shillings) above; lis, lion, and rose alternating around. Well centered and struck on an attractive, broad flan, this immense gold denomination presents extraordinary craftsmanship !!!

One need only look to the obverse, where numerous lis and roses form the background behind the throne, while even smaller lis decorate the cushion against which the king sits. There is even great care taken to aspects of his attire, such as the ruffling of the collar and the detail given to the Order chain worn around his neck.

A truly majestic specimen from late in the reign of this successor to Elizabeth I.
