特記その2: 伝説の王「Erichthonios」:

この人物はアテーナイの神話的な王である。
父は鍛冶神「ヘーパイストス」で、母は女神「アテーナー」とも、大地/地母神「ガイア」とも、或いはアテーナイ王クラナオスの娘アッティスであるとも言われる。

水のニュンペーのプラークテシアーとの間にパンディーオーンをもうけた。初代アテーナイ王ケクロプスと同じく上半身が人間で下半身が蛇だったといわれる。

NGC graded CHOICE VF, Strike 5/5, Surface 3/5, "scuffs", a famous mythological type and one of the most interesting subjects on Cyzicene coinage. The myth of Erichthonios is very complex: he was born from the failed attempts of Hephaestus to impregnate Athena, whose semen fell onto the earth (Gaia) and produced the young child. Athena cared for, him in secret and he was housed on the Acropolis where, despite his monstrous form with serpent feet, he became one of the important figures of the Athenian holy site and is regarded as the founder of an entire line of Athenian mythic kings. On this coin we see an early part of this story, where the Gaia hands Erichthonios, just born and shown as a normal child, to Athena. Following the artistic conventions conventions of the time, the child is shown as a miniature adult.
